"Opening"

"Opening" is about birth. The first sacred doorway we come through to life is the vagina.

Behind the performance I screened a short video I made which had still shots of doorways around the neighborhood interspersed with shots of vaginas. The video ends with a man and woman going inside a doorway, it slams closed.

I enter rolled up in a carpet and am rolled out onto a canvas. I cover myself in reds, brown and pinks, as though giving birth to myself. I am rolled up and carried off leaving a painting that resembles a birth bed.
