Theresa Byrnes
suffers from Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare and fatal degenerative disease of
the nervous system. She is also a full-time artist, an Australia Day
Ambassador, recipient of a Young Australian
of the Year Award and, more recently, author of The Divine Mistake, her
autobiography. In something of a muscular mood, Theresa spoke to us in an

Writing must be an exhausting process for you.
I’m not afraid of being exhausted, I’m afraid of being bored. I never sit
still anymore...Well, you know what I mean. I need to have my brakes on. I
guess I’m quite a driven person. I feel very intensely and I’m a very visual
person. I just have such a vision and such a desire to paint and express. I
am inspired just by being a human being. I feel my spirit in my body and
it’s so strong. I have all of these feelings and I’ve just got to get them
out... |
