PHOTO BY: MONICA MERVA. DRESS BY: LIZ COLLINS.

NAME: Theresa Byrnes

WHAT YOU DO: I am an artist. I paint, write (published my autobiography, THE DIVINE MISTAKE in 1999) and do performance art. I began to exhibit my work when I was 16. 18 years later I am still doing my thing.

HOW YOU KNOW LIZ COLLINS: I met Liz through a mutual friend. Jill who was designing an invitation card for one of Liz’s runway shows. I saw her work and gushed. Jill introduced us knowing I would love Liz and her work and that she would me and mine.

LOCATION OF PHOTO: The back corner of my East Village studio gallery. This is where the magic happens for me, where I make art, bring my feelings, visions and concepts into reality.

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?: A red, silk charmeuse dress with knitted, vertical lines. When Liz slipped this dress on me it was a moment. It fit perfectly and felt so beautiful on my skin, extremely comfortable and super gorgeous!

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A WONDER WOMAN?: When am hyper-focused, have worked for months on a body of paintings (an exhibition or commission) and then I reach the final stage. I put down the last marks, paint flicks on my face, covers my hands and clothes, a silence falls. I glance around at all my work now resonating together. I have done it; it's all finished. At that point I feel like a Wonder Woman.
